An Outstanding Young Musician Was Featured
in the Annual Westminster Choir College Scholarship Concert!

Rebecca Leshures, a native of Alberta, Canada, will complete her undergraduate degree in piano in May of 2010 at Westminster Choir College. She has been the first-place winner of all four annual piano competitions held at Westminster. Rebecca performed Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto at the MTNA Conference in Toronto and Schumann’s Concerto in A Minor with the Princeton Community Orchestra. Thank you for joining us in supporting this young artist as she begins her career!

We appreciated the wonderful attendance for the annual Eastertime concert! This year's repertoire featured the Schubert Mass in G and Gawthrop’s Sing Me to Heaven and the Aria in Classic Style by Grandjany for harp (performed by Elizabeth Lilly) and organ (performed by Mary Mozelle). We also presented wonderful new Festival pieces performed by our outstanding Jubilate Ringers! Soloists for the Schubert Mass in G included Dorothy Graham, Ken Baker, and Josef Lemmen.  The grand finale featured a lively Caribbean tune (the audience joined the singing, and some of the choir members donned festive Caribbean hats)!

Thank you to all the performers, including the guest instrumentalists
from the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra.

Ron Gartner, Vocalist

Ron Gartner's high-energy songfest took our audience from the finger-snappin’ sounds of the Rat Pack, Bobby Darin, and Tony Bennett to the great ballads sung by Perry Como to the Rock-‘n’-Rollin’ sounds of Bandstand and Motown! With the entertaining audience participation, there was something for everyone in this fantastic Vegas-style show!

Opening Concert Featured Mary Mozelle, Organist

Our 29th Concert Season opened on October 25 with a special Organ Concert to welcome our new Director of Music/Organist, Mary Mozelle. The program featured exciting works for the organ, elegantly interpreted by Mary on our beautiful Rodgers four-manual organ. From the exciting Virgil Fox arrangement of Bach’s Now Thank We All Our God to the closing Toccata from the Fifth Symphony by Charles Marie Widor, the program inspired and delighted the audience. Mary Mozelle is a distinguished concert organist and recording artist. As a solo recitalist, she has appeared throughout the United States and in the cathedrals of Great Britain. She has served as organist or organist/choirmaster in several noted churches throughout the United States, including The National Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC.

Letter from Our Pastor

September 2009

Dear Friends,

Covenant Presbyterian Church is very proud to continue its tradition of bringing some of the finest musical performances to the Fort Myers community. This year we have a wonderful Concert Series that I know you are going to enjoy!

We open our Concert Series showcasing our new Director of Music/Organist, Mary Mozelle, a world-class organist who has played with Conductors Robert Shaw and Leonard Slatkin. We continue with the incredible WoodWorks followed by our own Christmas Concert with our fabulous Concert Choir singing Vivaldi’s Gloria.

We kick off the New Year with ETA3, a classical trio started in 2006 at the Juilliard School of Music. This will be followed by a Vegas-style show as we hear the great Sinatra-era classics sung. In the spring, our Concert Choir will lead us into the season of Lent with Schubert’s Mass in G.  To conclude our Series, we will present an incredible pianist from the Westminster Choir College.

I extend my personal thanks to the Concert Committee, participating artists, members of the Covenant Concert Choir and Jubilate Ringers, and our Director of Music, Mary Mozelle, who share their love of music with us all.

Welcome to our 29th Concert Series!

In His service,

Rev. Daniel L. Hagmaier
Senior Pastor
